Devotion 3
Inspiration
Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak,
I am worn;
Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light;
Take my hand, precious Lord, take me home.
When my way grows drear, precious Lord, linger near, when my life is almost
gone, hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand lest I fall; Take my hand,
precious Lord, lead me home.
When the darkness appears and the night draws near, and the day is past
and gone, at the river I stand, guide my feet, hold my hand; Take my hand,
precious Lord, lead me home. – A favorite hymn of Martin Luther King Jr.
Reflection
Our friends in Cuba, the pastoral staff and members of Ebenezer Baptist
Church, use the word “accompany” to describe the ministries of assistance
they provide to their church members and their community. They
accompany a person or a family through illness and with basic needs for
food, clean water, clothing, shelter, or safety. They accompany with love,
joy, respect, prayer, and deep faith. Not a handout or a brief encounter or
transaction. They accompany by walking with the person, listening and
learning their needs, holding their hand, leading them through the storm.
Action in Contemplation
Dear Lord: Continue to guide and support our friends in Cuba as they
accompany neighbors through their struggles. Give them strength — Amen.
How can we accompany our neighbors through their struggles? Can we do
more than a handout? Can we listen to them and learn their needs? Can we
walk beside them, hold their hand, support them?
