Devotion 1
Inspiration
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me for he has anointed me to bring glad
tidings to the poor. He has sent me to set the captives free and to restore
sight to the blind, to liberate the oppressed and to declare a year favorable
to the Lord. – Luke 4:18-19
Reflection
The Spirit of the Lord is upon us as we continue the mission of Jesus in our
world. Action on behalf of justice and working to liberate the oppressed are
at the heart Christian Spirituality. To pray, to meditate, to contemplate is to
enter into dialogue with God in order to discern God’s will for us, so that we
might act for justice and liberation.
Action in Contemplation
At Plymouth Church, we embrace diversity and affirm the dignity and
worth of every person created in the image of God. Each of us has a
contribution to make to the community. The Board of Benevolence offers
opportunities for works of charity, while the Board of Christian Social
Action - and its eleven committees – spearhead the work of justice in our
community. Please consider adding participation in one of these boards to
your spiritual practices.
– George Dorsey, AMOS (A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy) Core Team
and Chair of the Board of Christian Social Action
