Devotion 1
Inspiration
Historically, music has played a central role in social movements. Songs have
been cries for change, promoting messages of peace, equality, and justice.
Music not only unites individuals but also inspires action and solidarity. For
example, visit #512 in the Plymouth hymnal, “Let There Be Peace on Earth”:
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God our creator, children all are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
Reflection
The Spirit of the Lord is upon us as we continue the mission of Jesus in our
world. Action on behalf of justice and working to liberate the oppressed
are at the heart Christian Spirituality. To pray, to meditate, to contemplate
is to enter into dialogue with God in order to discern God’s will for us, so
that we might act for justice and liberation.
Action in Contemplation
Offer this short and powerful prayer: Dear God, we pray this song will be
our reminder that peace can begin with us – Amen.
