How Plymouth Continues
to Support CISS
By Melinda Collins (she/her)
The Central Iowa Shelter and Services
(CISS) is much more than a homeless
shelter or soup kitchen. “Emergency
shelter and hot meals are crucial for
meeting the immediate needs of those
that are served. They take a step further
with additional opportunities to regain
stability, build skills, and propel forward
toward long-term self-sufficiency.”
CISS serves the whole by providing:
• On-site healthcare
• Job preparation skills
• Individualized case management
• Clothing closet
• Food pantry
• Farm fresh foods grown in their
own greenhouse
• CISS works to rebuild the foundation
needed to achieve success
Plymouth Church supports the CISS by
serving two hot meals every month, and
by providing the necessary funds to pay
for these meals. This winter, our groups
served groups up to 225 individuals –
some living at the Shelter and others
needing short term shelter, socialization,
and a hot meal.
Our Church Covenant states that our
members support the church’s benevolent
activities. Come and join us by registering
on Church Center under “Shelter Meals”
and volunteer to serve a meal. Or you can
make a donation to Plymouth’s Shelter
Meals online or by designating your
offering to this outreach
project. Learn more by

Thank you for supporting CISS
and helping build a stronger, more
compassionate community!
