Here’s what you need to know about the Plymouth Library!
How is the library maintained?
When is the library open?
The Library Team maintains the library,
processing donations and selecting new
books. It operates under the auspices of
the Board of Spiritual Growth, which
provides funds for new purchases.
Library Team members are Kay Riley,
Laura Todd, Lorna Truck, and me. Let
any of us know if you have questions or
suggestions for new books!
Whenever the church is open, the
library is available for you to come in,
browse books, and sit down and read.
Occasionally, there are meetings in the
library, but otherwise it’s open for you.
How do I check out books?
Each book has a checkout card inside the
cover. Write your name and the date on the
card, then place it in the card box on the
table by the library’s entrance. When you
return the book, just put it in the basket on
the table; the Library Team will reshelve it.
Can I donate books?
Yes, donations are appreciated! We
accept books that fit into our categories
and that are relatively new and in good
shape. Drop off books for donation on
the table by the library entrance.
What’s new?
After researching many titles last fall,
Lorna Truck and Kay Riley from the
Library Team selected over 50 recently
published books for the library, which
include titles on caring for creation,
spirituality, progressive Christianity,
anti-racism, and more. And we have four
new magazines subscriptions that cover a
variety of topical subjects: The Christian
Century, Sojourners, Mother Jones, and
Spirituality and Health. We hope you’ll
check them out (literally!).
You can read brief reviews of our new
books in the “What’s New in the Plymouth
Library?” column in the weekly bulletin or
on the Plymouth News page of the website.
I just checked out one of our new books,
What Does a Progressive Christian
Believe? by Delwin Brown, with the
intriguing subtitle A Guide for the
Searching, the Open, and the Curious. I’ll
be finished with it by the time you read
this article, so ask me about it!
