Whose Rhythm?
By Jeanne Lyle, written at Zion Flute School 2013
Whose rhythm is this?
The tree branches that sway gently to and fro.
The grasses bowing and standing in the breeze.
It is the Wind's rhythm.
Whose rhythm is this?
The gentle hoof step of the deer as she grazes her way across the meadow.
Heads up! Alert! Back to her meal.
It is the Earth's rhythm.
Whose rhythm is this?
It is the slow, plodding footpads of the turtle.
She lumbers across the rocks into the river — for moisture, for food.
It is the Water's rhythm.
And the beat of pelican wings
As they carve lazy, dreamy circles above my head.
The flock slowly moves away and it calms the soul.
It is the Sky's rhythm.
This heartbeat that moves blood through my body.
It's the spark that enlivens my spirit and feeds my soul.
It is the rhythm of Life.
It's my rhythm. It's your rhythm.
Jeanne Lyle has been a member of Plymouth since 1980. I
spent my first 30 years as a member of the Chancel Choir, then
granddaughters were born and I quit to help take care of them. I
enjoy Bible Study, helping with funerals and the Special Offerings
committee, and attending Forum and any classes that are offered.
