Iowa

Vast swaths of black gold as far as the eye can see.
Soon to be a carpet of green leaves shimmering in the noon day heat.
Many moons flow along the midnight sky.
Golden silk and beads of fruit begin.
Bees, birds, bugs and butterflies,
some with fire some buzz some chirp some glide silver skies.
Golden setting sun highlights rising mist.
Kernels and beans bring hope of bounty and burden of the unknown.
Evening scent of dew on newly mowed field signals a season of harvest
is soon to begin.
Golden mounds form a measure of success. Soon to feed the world.
Vast swaths of black gold as far as the eye can see.
A Soldier Came Home Today
By Jack Porter, written June 28, 2014
A soldier came home today,
draped in glory,
carried by fellowfamily
friends
fighters.
A long trip from battlefield to home.
Body shattered by frightful attack,
But the soul carries on to……home.
The path strewn with,
Boulders, meadows, valleys and mountain tops.
Streams and desserts,
Days and nights.
Began in hope
Ended in glory.
